@gonzthekantian.bsky.socialOf course, the great irony is that none of those critiquing Kendrick from the left bothered to include the album that actually did age terrifying well, that went far left in 2015. Funnily enough it was on my year end list in 2015. Ah, when it all boils down, there's nothin' but bones left... /end
Show PostTo the liberal mainstream, sure, but scratch deeper and especially by modern left standards, Kendrick has rarely been about seriously challenging the system so much as embracing what has worked for him. Which is not a criticism, mind you - it's a huge part of his relatabilty and populism.
Show PostLike, TPAB very obviously has political themes, and it very obviously is using those themes interwoven with survivors guilt and the price of fame. The Blacker The Berry is right there. AND even at the time in underground spaces I remember folks saying that it wasn't really a revolutionary album.
Show PostCurrent debate on the other site is self-escribed leftists saying they never took TPAB by Kendrick Lamar seriously as political/leftist. And fans are either saying "wtf it was political, listen to it" or "it's more introspective, that's the point". Here what's annoying: they're all right.
