If this isn't the realest thing I've read, lmao. My writing lecturer loved verbose prose, but she would also regularly pull me aside like, "I know you like writing horror, but not every sentence needs to be that level of detail, especially when you're doing shorter pieces for an assignment."

when I was writing as a teen I would change every "said" to something more evocative and allow myself exactly 2 "said"s per conversation and now as an adult I've realised this makes your writing extremely dense and robs it of flow and now I'm on a strict diet of "said" unless it's actually important
