The intersections between racism and other isms is wholly fascinating (read: aggravating) because many people, especially white people, will actively allow racism to happen if they can argue that by not letting it happen, you're upholding a different -ism. And I need more people to unpack that.

That's not to take anything away from Mamdani who is the first mayor in my lifetime who seems interested in using that sort of power! But there's a reason a lot of other local electeds don't!

Remember when I said NYC Mayor is one of the most powerful executive offices in the country? Honestly a lot of it is this kind of stuff. In many jurisdictions "I'm gonna hire 1000 people for a couple days for $30/hr" would require months hearings and council votes to actually do.
