Actually, I reuse my oil, but I also transfer it from the cooking vessel into another container, and strain out the burnt bits, so it doesn’t go rancid as quickly. And then I clean the deep fryer afterwards, as well as dishes, counters, and floors. Frying leaves a thin film of grease on everything.

I cook most of my own meals, and I’d say an hour is on the low side for deep frying, when you factor in prep, cook time, and cleaning the kitchen afterwards. Deep frying always makes the most mess, and if you’re not factoring in cleanup, you’re ignoring the most time consuming part of the process.
