Surely this is a wake-up call. If nothing changes, arrears will soar past £10bn — into 11 figures (11!!!!). The government's recent reforms are welcome, but whoever's in No. 10 has to go further.
Show PostOr is council tax simply too regressive, too expensive? The average Band D property in England now pays £2,392 — up 56% since 2016-17, against inflation of just 42%. People are paying hundreds of pounds more than if bills had risen with inflation. On top of higher energy bills, food costs, rents.
Show PostCollection rates are down across the board. Still above 95%, but only just. Scotland's has dropped 2.5 percentage points in a decade. Have we all suddenly decided we hate funding social care and public services?
