this is not about very specific residential schools aimed at marginalised kids of various backgrounds, obviously. This is the discourse around primarily rich kids or kids on academic scholarships going to rich schools

there is no one size fits all and ofc nothing is right for everyone or every situation but what I will not stand for is people calling parents “bad parents” for sending a kid to boarding school. Like with everything, specifics and nuance are important.

school by school is also gonna vary but generally kids are not being sent out alone Lord of the Flies style! there are house parents, teachers, coaches, mentors of all flavours and it can be really useful at that age to have mentors and influences who are qualified but aren’t your parents

I see we’re doing boarding school discourse again so: while this varies so much kid by kid, absolutely, for me personally: being allowed to have a healthy independence and safe place to explore away from my parents at 14 was absolutely the best thing that could have happened to me. hands down
