Not long after that, she went deaf. She slowed down a bit. Stopped retracting her claws. She got sick. She started peeing outside the kitty litter. I could tell she was old, but her best days were definitely behind her. I had to make a very difficult decision.

August 21, 2026. Loaf breathed her last, held by me, accompanied by Will. Wherever she is now, she's no longer in pain. And I hope she can forgive me for making that difficult decision.

When she wanted to be up high, I bought a huge cat tower for her. She became less of a pet and more of a housemate. It wasn't my house, it was hers. And when I met a guy, and he started coming around, she adored him. He bought her fancy feast and she gave him cuddles.

When I played a game on the TV, she was either on the couch next to me, or my lap. I took to calling the seat I didn't sit on 'her spot', her territory marked with enough shed hair to make a white nest. When I cooked, she waited outside the kitchen for dropped cheese. She loved cheese.
