Years ago, when we had our first Patterdale, Mortimer, we were visiting my brother in his top floor Edinburgh tenement flat. Mort was still a puppy then, but knew he must not pee indoors. Couldn't work out how to get outside so jumped onto my lap and peed there instead.

A few years ago we bought a house - which in itself is incredible - but as part of the deal we got a big range style cooker which the vendors kindly left in situ. Quite old, though. “When this cooker dies it’s going to be a nightmare to replace it,” we’ve said more than once. Anyway, it just died.

Bit of practical advice, Bluesky: turned the heating on yesterday and I've had to top up the boiler due to low pressure four times in about 36 hours. That's "tell the landlord" territory, right?
