And I don't think it relies on needing to wait for an institution to validate or put these ideas (back) into practice. Although wow, that would be amazing and beautiful. Either way, Katie, I do hope you can find peace and a sense of belonging. You are valuable.

I think there's value for those currently disconnected from & hurt by the institution and/or their biological families yet can't ignore/deny resonance/pull with this community/tradition. There are tools here for finding intellectual, spiritual & emotional space and peace.

A big value of this is book (and the former 'Tabernacles of Clay') is demonstrating how much the current institutional ideas are not and never have been set in stone. There is a shockingly expansive hopeful framework within our tradition. These give hopeful glimpses of what that might look like.

Consideration of these models doesn't remove the pain of the experience of exclusion and betrayal and abuse and bigotry. But, at least for me, spiritual resonance in a widening idea of what the model divine Family IS opens up the doors to being able to see one's participation in it.

First, Katie, I'm so very, very sorry the people in your life treat you in such a way. The ideas that resonated as an answer for me in this book regarded Adoption Theology from JS's ideas of the entire human family as chosen/found adoptive family of God, united as family by choice, not biology.
