AI gateways are showing the shift towards open weight AI models in real time. Vercel’s gateway went from 28.4% open weight token usage to 62% two months. Open weight models are 7 of OpenRouter’s top 10 most used models. However most of the spend is on closed models, reminds me of iPhone & Android.
