To the first, I say: Fine, I don't want to go where that bandwagon is headed. "Left behind" is an interesting phrase, it indexes a notion of a race towards a desirable/shining "future" that only some can access, and which we should all hope to participate in. >>

if we want to treat ai systems with respect because it is a good thing to do (not because ai systems have feelings), that says all about the norms we want to cultivate as a society and *nothing* about rights ai systems require because of feelings, capabilities or whatever
