Though it did help my older teen son with post op pain from a minor surgery as a way to avoid heavier meds due to our family history of addiction.

We have more options now than we had when opioids were introduced, hence past tense. Also every pill my mom took was legally prescribed by a physician & obtained thru a pharmacy. Doctors are human & can be bamboozled like anyone else. I live in a legal weed state. It doesn’t fix everything.

And those of us who know & love addicts live in the nuances. Opioids were miracle drugs for pain- they were effective when other things weren’t. When something works well, we use it.

I mean, my mom didn’t think she was using recreationally. She had real pain from a car accident in the 70s. It’s really complicated why people use.
