Unless judges are going to start throwing people in jail, there's basically no reason to think this regime will listen to them much longer. They themselves have already clearly begun to figure out that they probably don't have to.
Show PostWhy do people resist the idea that if you go broke in old age, then we just give you "welfare for people who are broke in their old age?" Social Security was never designed to be a program that pays out for 20 years or more. It was adopted when people retired and, um, died.
Show Post"Oh, it's only another 7 years of life" is true but not the story (and not all that accurate about how people were thinking in 1935, when 65 was considered "old" and people lived with extended family). I'm no doomer, but that's just whistling past the graveyard. /3x
Show PostFirst, if you only made it to 60 in 1935, you might live to be 72. Maybe. An extra decade of life for an old person is costly! But the big change, as well, is the worker-to-retiree ratio. That's a huge change. 1935: 159 -1 Now: 3-1 and dropping...! /2
