#FireScarFriday entry: scarred Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) in northern Mongolia (photo taken in 1996). This particular tree (a snag) had eight visible scars before sampling and ten after.

Fire extent/frequency isn't extraordinary now, but fire severity is in many places. Climate+fuels+people. Fire good/fire bad. Why slim coverage? I’d guess it’s that complexity is hard; the difficulty of holding two(+) opposing ideas in mind at the same time; Fitzgerald’s definition of intelligence.
