/2 My grandparents were born and raised in Newfoundland and kept this accent, in their late 20’s they moved to Cape Breton, NS, which many NL’ers did as well, some Cape Bretoners also had this accent, I have a strong Cape Breton accent with some words that sound Irish. ☘️

Yes, Newfoundlanders sound Irish in the movie Below, and they have a separate recognized dialect, Irish citizens came to Newfoundland in 1675 for fishing, many Irish decided to stay, due to the isolation there the descendants had kept the same traditions and dialect. /1
