How can you avoid it? Use your computer or the web browser on your phone to start your sub. After that if you want to use the app to browse it should be no problem, and future sub charges should not be affected (unless Apple gets shitty about it.)

Creators have the option to save patrons the extra cost and take it out of their own cut. I will not be doing that. 30% of my current income means not being able to do Patreon anymore. It's so easy to avoid neither of us having to pay it.

If you pledge to my patreon through the ios app you will pay an additional 30% fee (Apple's fee, they keep all that!) AND your pledge is held by Apple for 75 days. So if you pledge to me in March maybe I will get that money for rent in June.
