Come for the wasp brawl, stay to see them pollinating side by side. These guys were on a snow flurry aster plant outside our house. The background hum is our heat pump. These asters are important late season food for all manner of pollinators. Learn more about wasps from @waspwoman.bsky.social

An interesting experience whilst filming Hornets Vespa crabro on Isle of Wight. A gentleman I was talking to got too close to the nest & one stung him. Then an 'attack' pheromone is released, one stung me on the head - it was 2 hours before I could safely retrieve my camera! @waspwoman.bsky.social

We usually have a good population of Hornets with daily sightings in suitable weather but this year there have only been a few around so pleased to find this queen warming up early yesterday. Placed in a sunnier spot she was soon away. @waspwoman.bsky.social @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social
