The MAGA conspiracy theory is that there are huge numbers of noncitizens who all decide they’ll risk jail & deportation to vote, in their own names, for the payoff of… casting one ballot out of millions. It would be an extraordinary display of civic duty if it were true! But it’s ludicrous.

Basic common sense should tell you that nearly all of the trivial number of noncitizens who attempt to vote do so out of ignorance rather than fraudulent intent. It’s easily caught & risks serious criminal penalties for no personal benefit. No rational person would do that deliberately.

Power centralized in a single individual (a literal emperor) was cast as, you know, really bad, and results in bad stuff like dissolving a democratic Senate. In fact, even making oneself *like* the Emperor — pursuing selfish desires for power — was framed as turning to the Dark Side.

I feel like an underrated aspect of Star Wars is that it was the first truly widely popular modern myth where democracy (and, especially, what happens when it’s undone) was a foundational concept of the fictional universe. That was a departure from LoTR, Narnia, etc., where monarchs were central.
