Show PostHow many millennial humanities professors would say they are incredibly lucky to have an academic job? 100% (I hope). How many millennial humanities professors would say that they are ”satisfied” with their academic job? Not that many!
Show PostIn other words it's not just that there are few academic jobs for humanists in the academy; it’s also that the academic jobs that exist are mostly bad in the sense that you have to struggle against the institution to have any semblance of intellectual life you thought the job was supposed to provide
Show Postthere's a lot to this even in many FT/TT jobs (now vanishing) your real intellectual community are people you see once a year at a conference; perhaps your employer pays for you to attend and perhaps not your job itself is a constant effort to prove to your "institution" that your job should exist
