I don't think he's virtue signaling, I think he's being honest about his own metacognition and adherence to his own strict moral code. If it could be said that there is one thing that we are looking for from him, it's honesty.

regardless of how you feel about kirk's death, he had a one- and three-year-old. they don't deserve to have to live with this. we can at least feel bad for them

Charlie Kirk was a person. He might not have cared if I died, but if I don’t care that he died then I’ve already lost. I believe in the dignity of all human beings and I want to live in a society that treats each of us as sacred and ensouled.

The minimum wage is just that. It is up to people themselves to get better skills and more work experience so they can get higher paying jobs. A burger flipper fresh off the street should not be making as much as an electrician with 5 years of experience.
