from 2019-2024, the org grew while remained very torn on *what* it wanted to be - a home for all tendencies on the left? a party surrogate within the Dems? a vanguard party? and then from the wreckage of the liberal failure of 2024, the NYC machine created Zohran, and everybody wanted a piece of it.

and as is inevitable in a group where participation determines clout, the most ideological folks ended up setting the national agenda. until NYC DSA, among the most diverse, reformist, and electorally minded, started actually winning elections and building a their own machine.
