@clevelandnats.bsky.socialOn a @teeswildlife.bsky.social walk today at Portrack Marsh with @clevelandnats.bsky.social. Fairly quiet invert wise, with the highlight a Humming-bird Hawk-moth larva in the last couple of hundred metres! Twenty years on the south coast and never saw one, come back up north and Bob's your uncle!
Show PostHighlight of a visit to Castle Eden Dene NNR with @clevelandnats.bsky.social recently were nymphs of the stilt bug Metatropis rufescens on Enchanters Nightshade. I've seen the adults before, but not this stage and not in the north east. Cool beast!
Show PostA visit to Dormans Pool Nature Reserve with @clevelandnats.bsky.social. found some good stuff, the fly Scellus notatus and the bug Liorhyssus hyalinus (images: Daphne Aplin). Both appear to be new records for Co. Durham, while the Liorhyssus record appears to be the most northerly UK record yet.
Show PostRipon City Wetlands and environs with @clevelandnats.bsky.social. Lots of Clouded Yellow (but no photos unfortunately - with the heat these babies were turbocharged!) and an interesting selection of other inverts made for another very enjoyable outing.
