The economy growing doesn't equal "better years." That's not how it works. The economy is ONE factor in people's qualify of life. But also, the idea that the economy could just keep growing forever is madness. The planet is finite. At some point they have to switch to sustainability, not growth.
Show PostHere’s the problem with saying things like “1998 was the best year”: the economy has grown over time. This sounds like a pointless truism but it’s not. Wealth has all-but-monotonically increased for decades in the US. We don’t notice because of hedonic creep. But we’d certainly notice going back.
