This is doubly funny for VNs and stuff cuz sometimes it's like "he's the protagonist, he's a doctor on call who just so happens to take care of you after one event" and it's like wow doctor guy had NO IDEA the Youth he casually scolded for risk taking would be PLOWING HIS ASS LATER.

I think one of my favorite j' ne se quois'eses of character writing is the feeling of fleeting encounter: that is, when two characters meet and the story takes off from there, but they could have easily just bumped into each other once and never again. Glitter in my brain when I think about it.
