I just keep a word document and write an brief annotation for each book. (I have a terrible memory; when people ask for book recommendations from me, I go blank!) Several years ago I did a 50-state challenge and since then have kept up with locations as well as datelines.

Show PostThe last fiction manuscript I edited, I made a character chart with an annotated chapter list. It helped me AND my author stay on track. (It also showed several characters' names were either wrong in parts or too similar, which we fixed.) Helped with the timeline too. Chapter summaries are key!
