@galeolaria.bsky.socialFinally got the Bogong moths here in Armidale, a few days later than the rest of NSW! Hundreds fluttering through our backyard tonight, nectaring on Eremophila and Pittosporum #ozinverts #threatenedspecies
Show PostFirst flying ducks (Caleana major - large duck orchid) of the spring near Jervis Bay, NSW. Out pretty early here compared to the ducks I see most seasons further south in East Gippsland - often as late as mid-November. #orchids #inthefield #ozplants #biodiversity #wildflowers
Show PostCorybas recurvus - Helmet Orchid This curious little orchid is endemic to Western Australia, often forming large colonies. Sitting on top of a single heart shaped leaf, its flower is deep red to black and about the size of a marble 🌿 #orchids #ozflora #wildoz #nativeplants #inaturalist
Show PostThe ear-splitting chorus of the Wet Tropics' Northern Greengrocer (Cyclochila virens) starts at dusk and goes for about 20 mins. Sometimes they'll try to get a chorus going at night, but usually only a few join in.
Show PostFirst Powerful Owlet of the season!!!! By far the earliest we've ever seen, by about 3 weeks. We actually saw it fledge last night, but didn't realise it. It was about 40m from the hollow and about 15m up, so it must be quite a good flier already. #brisbane #birds #wildoz
