In the majority of Lovecraft's stories, people of color are not the antagonists. The horror is rarely if ever the indigenous peoples of whatever region. Lovecraft was a racist and saw people of color as primitive, but not inherently horrific. For HPL, the horror was white people degenerating.

I get that there's a lot of misconceptions about Lovecraft's work, and that Lovecraft's racism strongly colors how folks read his fiction, but I think people need to start recognizing: In Lovecraft's fiction, the horror is white people.
