We bounced a radio signal off Venus' surface! On 17+18 Oct the Dwingeloo Radio Telescope transmitted and Astropeiler Stockert received the echoes, 42 million km each way. We decoded a 10-character message from the echo. We're not finished yet: more echos on 24+25 Oct. www.camras.nl/en/blog/2026...

Very sad to hear that Henk Spruit, a legend in all things magnetohydrodynamical, has passed away. Although he spent much of his career at MPA in Garching, he held a Professorship by Special Appointment at our institute for quite some time. A great scientist, lovely human and not a fan of shoes.

New blog post: X-engine correlator on a Ryzen NPU. A few months ago I posted about the basics of NPUs in Ryzen AI chips. I wanted to tackle a real-world problem to get more experience, so I've implemented an X-engine correlator like the ones used in radio astronomy.
