I’m also an immigrant to Canada living in Alberta (though now w/citizenship), so I’m taking the referenda personally and m having very similar feelings about this place. To everyone who immigrated here (or are descendants of those who did) and voted “yes” to pulling up the ladder: GFY.

All of this. ⤵️ Yes, Alberta voted to stay in Canada & also to be a bunch of racist pricks while doing it. The referendum laid bare people's underlying fears about the Other. The one thing QC & AB separatist movements have in common is the racism embedded in both. Today feels hopeless from my seat.
