Ponyo is a beautiful movie about Hayao Miyazaki knowing that people will watch anything he puts out. I hope you like an entire movie being put on pause while a boy and his fish-girlfriend fart around a flooded town for fifteen minutes.
Show PostI find The Wind Rises contemptible because it's an exercise in sophistry about how Miyazaki "had" to be a bad dad to Goro in order to make Nausicaä. But there's accidentally a plot in there about artistic passion being coopted by war profiteering, which at least gives it more substance than Ponyo.
