Apprehensions are different from crossings. I have no doubt that both are down, but apprehensions are going to be down by a lot more as migrants no longer present themselves to the border patrol to claim asylum.

Yeah, but that's a relatively small share of their workforces. And more importantly its not the jobs people care about. The real problem is the smaller railways, legacy private and the subways. Most Japanese subways have no interlining, and they have done sod all on automation.
