Here is my best puppy-training tip: immediately after eating or drinking, put it outside, let it do any business it wants to and praise it effusively when it does. Also regular potty breaks obviously, but the after-eating thing really reinforces the concept.

Yes. Many, most of them literally. Like they came limping or starving into my life. The two I have now I got from the animal shelter when they were two and four years old. They were a challenge. A younger dog would be better, but she needs to be willing to work with it.
