Saying 300k of debt is inaccurate but the uncertainty and the aggravation of fighting bills is a huge part of the problem with US health insurance. If you get a 300K bill from the hospital it’s going to be a big stressor in your life even if it ultimately goes away.
Show PostWait, am I weird for thinking this is fine? We just reached our out of pocket max with a reasonably good eshi plan for an uncomplicated birth and that seems absurd to me. And 500k surprise bills from paperwork errors, especially during birth when things get fucky are legitimately horrible
Show PostThe implication of the quote post is that it’s “insane” to entertain the idea that someone could be billed 500k for complex child birth in our health system without it being a “paperwork error” and that is WILDLY incorrect
Show Posti'm not disagreeing with you in the big picture but the amount of "monetize the rot" money the US health system makes on billing errors is honestly itself a big scandal
Show Postat a certain point i'm sure meta is just like "yeah, this probably WON'T hold up in court, but we have enough money to fight it until then."
