Harry Bennett retired a very wealthy man. He had three estates in Michigan and a large ranch in California. He was never charged for any of the crimes he committed during 30 years at Ford. Today, Ford Motor Co. openly acknowledges that Harry Bennett was nothing more than a gangster.

It was a great publicity stunt. Michael Bennett wanted to direct ROADSHOW, a screenplay by Jerome Kass about a bus and truck company of Seesaw, where the onstage romance mirrors the offstage romance. He wanted to cast Redford and Midler, but Universal said "no" to Bette and Michael walked.

Mr. Mustache was the producer. I can't recall if Redford was actually ever attached. When Bennett dropped out (before my time), Merrick tried to keep it going. Fred Schepisi was attached for a long time. They kept talking a post-Pirates Linda Ronstadt. We were up to our asses in drafts.
