Helping someone is all about how it makes you feel rather than being about how much they 'deserved' your help. If you were conned shame on them. There is no shame in having a kind heart.

I would do the same thing, as long as I had the money to spare. I'm always willing to buy people food if they ask for it. I even buy food for people who are clearly high or drunk. People have to eat.
