I guess I see No Kings stuff and think that it's an output of this inchoate, vaguely incoherent energy that a more organized left might try to make an appeal to rather than being in meaningless aesthetic conflict with all the time

Perhaps the parental cutoff is not a trend of the moment. But isn’t that the point? People have figured out, it seems, that conditional love (if it is that) doesn’t need to be returned unconditionally; that demand is some parents’ blackmail. Those alert to mental health now know not to buckle to it
