Update: It passed, but not without a lot of discussion, some interesting, some (to me) puzzling. City Council has a responsibility to use its oversight authority when needed, and council hearing "we have millions of extra dollars and didn't tell you about it" is an excellent moment to use it.

That also goes for our District Attorney Nathan Vasquez who ran on crushing protestors to appease business interests. Those politics fed into this moment, and now the moment demands a massive pivot or they will go down in history as obstructionists to stopping fascism.
