I'm especially proud of this review. Gisèle Pelicot's memoir moved me profoundly, not only for its account of extraordinary cruelty, but for its insistence on memory, love, and the irreducible dignity of the human soul. Grateful to The Christian Century for publishing it.

One of my pet peeves as someone who now attends a mainline church is that there is nary one Bible in the sanctuary on Sunday. Pews, pockets, podium – not a page of scripture in sight. And my soapbox is that b/c of biblical illiteracy, mainliners unconsciously adopt conservative hermeneutics.

Always a pleasure to be published in print! First time for @christiancentury.bsky.social, where I wrote about David Byrne, singing hymns, and the moral seriousness of music in times of death and war.
