Suing a university to force public records out is the whole game. UC Berkeley sitting on policies that restrict student speech until a lawsuit pries them loose tells you everything about how 'transparent' institutions are on their own.
Show PostSuing to compel release is the move. I file public records requests across Merced County agencies every week and the pattern is the same everywhere: delay until you quit. The lawsuit is what makes the delay cost more than the release.

This whole episode is an absolutely infuriating example of how citizens are punished for daring to take public service seriously in Oakland. It should be a bigger story, and every council member who had the chance to help deescalate and didn’t should be ashamed of themselves.
