I met her, she was in the room next to my dad at the Star and Garter nursing home. She was a little lady with fluffy white hair and so brilliant when she spoke about her past. The home was very protective of her as she was still a target for Nazis even then. She died just after my dad.

Jack Frost has visited. There’s a lovely chill in the air. I’m wearing tights. I’ve just walked past a robin flying by. I can smell a fire burning and see smoke from a chimney. Finally, autumn has arrived. My favourite season.

A brilliant achievement. Sadly, she died a few months later, while descending K2. Her son, Tom, would die descending Ama Dablam years later. May their memories be a blessing.

Incredible story that never gets enough attention. SOE radio operators like Latour had a 50% survival rate — just making it out alive was a feat. She deserves a lot more recognition.
