I am biased, I suppose, but truly, he was the greatest of dogs. On my last night with him, we curled up on his bed on the floor, and I told him the mostly-real story of how he came to be adopted and living in Maryland after being born in Spain.

Despite everyone’s best efforts, he only got worse, until in the last couple of days he stopped eating and barely moved around on his own. It was not the quality of life anyone wants for a dog they love.

In recent weeks, he suffered from worsening pain that did not respond to anything we tried. Between regular visits, emergency visits, and specialists, he saw five vets in six weeks.
