Actually, I do have one more thought: you can organize your workplace. YOU can start this. There was nothing special about me when I started organizing, besides the fact that I was just fed up. Don't wait for someone else. If you need a sign to start, this is it.

Lastly, organizing workplaces (whether to join a union or to push back on bullshit) is a shitload of unpaid labor on top of your job. The only way to make it not a horrible sludge is to 1) make it fun, 2) make it a collective effort. You cannot and shouldn't do it alone and suffering

6) Any change in policy, tell them you need it in writing. Any change in your working conditions: get it in writing. Any sudden offers you get: demand it in writing. 7) Your boss is not your friend. You can be friendly, but they are expected to have the company's back, not yours. Act accordingly.
