Virtually every governance problem we have boils down to repudiation of the social contract. "Why should we have universal health insurance when I'm not sick/my employer already subsidizes my insurance?" "Why should we have public education when I prefer to send my kids to private school?" etc

Sharing this on main because it's important: Being fat ≠ being unhealthy! It's reaching the verge of clinical obesity, overweight that can lead to dangerous situation and even then, people can work on it to change it. But being fat is fine! Being too muscular can be unhealthy too for example!

In an ideal world, people would act completely rationally and people would turn out to vote for the least-bad option and the Republicans would lose in a landslide no matter how badly democrats fumble the ball. But we don’t live in that world. In reality, demoralizing your base loses elections.
