“Passive vs direct” sounds tidy, but dead protesters are still victims of direct aggression — by their own government. If the standard is opposing aggression, it shouldn’t switch depending on who’s doing it.

It's not a choice for many Muslim women in theocratic societies, and the only reason it exists anywhere is because men mandated it to show their power over women and to push responsibility for their bad behaviour and lack of control onto women.
