Red diesel has higher sulfur content. Easier to refine, but more pollution. A gallon of red diesel in a 100 gallon fuel tank will make it all look red, and $5000 was the fine for using it on the highway, last I looked. Fuel taxes are meant to be used for road work, so be prepared for crappy roads.

Plus, if you fill up once, you're going to need to run 5 or so tanks of regular to not have your fuel look red, so you don't want to do it if you're going into a restricted area any time soon. So it's even less useful that you've said, and of course, doesn't help supply.

I wrote a grad school paper on dyed fuels and the consequences of getting caught with incorrect/blended colors in the tank. This is going to cause even more confusion down the road.

With elections t-30 days now, I wonder if the cheeto in chief will try to squeeze out more beforehand. The cards don't seem to favor Iran backing down before then.
