a rulebook should never give players 'permission' to change or break the rules -- the 'permission' is inherent in the fact that it's an inanimate object that can't do anything to stop you. it's at once condescending to the players and denigrating to your own design work

ttrpgs are a generally myopic field of design and have a small fraction of the creative variety present in other kinds of games, and this is somewhat (although not entirely) due to social pressure and aesthetic standards historically exerted by conservative players, designers, and publishers

maybe it is a mixed game, I don't know, but if something looks different to what you're used to, why not try to think if there's a reason for it rather than just saying "wrong" lol
