It is (as many of you say) like the Kennedy Center imbroglio, the reflecting pool, etc... but not just b/c of the President's priorities. It's also that there are really a remarkable number of people (DOJ lawyers, most importantly) willing to pursue them, sometimes to self-destructive lengths.

Just to be clear - I'm not a homeowner. I'm a renter like you. I do support rent caps. But they are not a substitute for building housing, which is the only thing that is going to substantively bring rents down over the medium term.

Time enough to make a better plan. It's the 'single' penalty. A single income cannot sustain housing.
