If anything, this poor grasp of data handling by a professional might point to a need to invest more resources into the education sector 😝 Opinion pieces often have a great way of not understanding how to present data in an useful and meaningful way. The mean is almost always the least useful option

I read that too, with similar feelings in advance and in retrospect. But those numbers really confuse me, and I think it might be more than median/mean confusion...

Beyond that, I find it infuriating that the premise is basically this: only those who can claim poverty should ask for an inflation-matching pay rise. I think people in a wealthy society should be well paid and able to live in comfort. The writer apparently doesn't believe that.
