Crazy idea: Democrats should defend immigration and immigrants, run on the idea that immigrants make America great, and stop Homer Simpsoning themselves into the shrubbery every time Republicans try to demagogue it.

my former boss who is japanese american was obsessed with this idea. "island country whose inhabitants were obsessed with tea and heirarchy and had terrible teeth and an extremely complicated imperial relationship with their next door neighbor" was how she put it
