According to 2024 ONS statistics the number of people in the UK aged 90 or over - the only people who could reasonably be said to remember 'living through' WWII (if you were five in 1945, you don't remember living through the war) was 625,000. Less than .1% of the population. What are we doing here?

If Britain faced what Ukraine is facing right now, I 100% believe most people will fight and - considering the threat in such a case would be fascist - it would be obvious who isn’t fighting. But ofc when it is hypothetical people say no, because no one can imagine not living in relative peace.
